In the beginning of the Council meeting on 8/24  OIC (Officer In Charge) Lt. Dan Dour announced his official retirement on 11/1/2016. This will be 2 months after Sgt Ackermann gets sworn in as the GRPD Chief of Police on 8/31/2016.

While speaking to the council and Mayor, OIC Dour took time to thank Glen Rock Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corp for all of their assistance through the years. He also thanked  the Mayor, Council and Borough Administrator Lenora Benjamin, past and current members of the GRPD for this opportunity.

I am humbled by all the support and well wishes people in the community extended to me, but be assured I will remain in Glen Rock. Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve the residents of Glen Rock.

OIC Dan Dour is a long time Glen Rock resident as well as a member of the GR Police Department. He started his career in Glen Rock in July, 1989 as a patrolman after years of military duty and time as a NJ transit police officer. Since then he has had an amazing career.

OIC Dour was assigned to the Rapid Deployment Force at Teterboro Airport and the George Washington bridge after the terrorist attack in 2001.

IN 2004 he was then promoted to Sergeant. Following that he was assigned to special tasks in the Borough to help maintain accurate records and statistic. This included the Uniform Crime Reporting System, reporting crime statistics to the State police and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

In March 2014 OIC Dour was promoted to Lieutenant of the Glen Rock Police Department. Under this title he managed the operation of the patrol division and organized an effective crime prevention strategy.

November 2015 both Captain Miller and Chief Stahman retired from the GRPD. At this time, the Glen Rock Council and Mayor assigned Lt. Dan Dour to the OIC of the Glen Rock PD while they started looking at developing a plan of action to replace both the Captain and Chief. During this time OIC Dour not just fulfilled his tasks of Lt., but also fulfilled the positions of Captain and Chief of Police.

Dan has been a tremendous example of what a true public servant is. He has dedicated his life to helping people. From his distinguished military career to all his years working to protect the citizens of Glen Rock, Dan is a true inspiration to us all and he will be missed for sure.

Michael O’Hagan, Councilman

Lt. Dour has always been a great asset to our town. He cared a great deal for our community and its citizens. When my father was ill he always asked about him & on his own time visited with him often. Our town has lost a great Policeman & our children a wonderful role model. I am thankful to have grown up and now raise my boys in a town that was patrolled by him.

Elizabeth Behar Cox

Dan Dour has done a tremendous job as our Officer in Charge in ensuring public safety and the high level of service that residents expect from our police department.

As Council President, I extend my appreciation for his leadership over the last year — as he assumed the duties of Chief, with vacancies in the command staff positions of Captain and Lieutenant.
I wish him good health in the years to come, and applaud his professional achievements,  leadership and unwavering devotion to our community for more than 30 years.

Mary Jane Surrago, Councilwoman

Dan Dour is one of a kind. He is caring, courteous and unfailingly dependable….an valuable asset to the department and our community. He will be missed as a police officer. I am delighted he is staying in Glen Rock. One of my favorite memories of Dan is when he stopped traffic on Prospect to let a Momma Duck and her babies cross to get to the park.

Joan Hirning

Lt. Dan Dour will be missed. He represents the word integrity 100%. He has always been a tremendous help to the ambulance corps. I thank him for all he has done for this community.

Gary Stevens

I congratulate Lt. Dour on his service to Glen Rock and all the accomplishments he as contributed to. I wish he and his family the best upon his retirement”

Skip Huisking, Councilman

Late in 2015, Lt. Dan Dour took on the difficult position of Officer in Charge performing the duties of Chief, Captain and Lieutenant. He was a tremendous help to me as a new Mayor with many, many questions. His many years of service to the Borough are appreciated and he will be missed.

Mayor Bruce Packer

I personally want to thank Lt. Dour for being there during my years on the ambulance corps and working at the pool.  He welcomed me back with a true warmth and started a line of open communication with Banana Tree News and made the relationship between BTN and the GRPD grow stronger.  Thank you. I am thrilled you are staying here in town. We would be lost without one of our threads.
