On April 30th Glen Rock changed from Blue to Purple. This is to support and raise awareness for the upcoming Relay for Life event on May 14th, 2016. The Relay For Life of Glen Rock, a community-driven event, will take place at Alexander Hamilton Elementary School, 380 Harristown Road, from 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, to 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 15. The money raised supports groundbreaking cancer research, education and prevention programs, and critical services for people facing cancer.
This will mark the 13th year that Glen Rock will be hosting Relay For Life, which encompasses involvement of participants, supporters and sponsors not only in Glen Rock, but in numerous nearby municipalities including Fair Lawn, Hawthorne, Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Ridgewood, Waldwick, Wyckoff and North Haledon.
At Relay, numerous teams of people (no matter how big or small) walk around a track in in memory of a loved one lost to cancer, in honor of someone fighting cancer, and in recognition of a cancer survivor. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times. Cancer survivors and caregivers take a celebratory first lap to start the event.
Teams of any size can consist of schools, businesses, organizations, churches, friends, family members, or any person or group inspired to get involved.
