On March 3rd, 2016 Sgt. Eric Reamy pled guilty to two charges in front of Judge Steele:

  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Theft by failure to make required disposition.

These charges will hold a sentence of 3-5 years in prison. He could be released in 2 years based on his behavior.  AS for his pension, Per NJ Division of Treasury, St Reamy is not eligible for his pension and retirement benefits. It is up to the courts whether his wife and dependents are eligible to receive them. You can see this in the NJ Police & Fire Retirement Handbook.

While Speaking to Sgt. Reamy’s attorney, Richard Potter, He expressed to BTN the he and  Sgt Reamy’s felt that this deal was fair and that he is guilty of the charges. Mr Potter gave a statement from Sgt. Reamy about the events that took place.

Mr. Reamy feels terrible about these events. He was under a great deal of stress from an illness and professional pressures. His actions are not a reflection of who he really is, but were driven by these stresses. He had a long and successful career as a very good police officer until these events.

Mr Potter also clarified that Mr. Reamy was never suicidal and he was never put on a suicide watch. Eric Reamy is a strong man and that he  realizes he made mistakes and broke the law.

Sgt. Reamys sentencing is on June 24th, 2016 at the Bergen County Court House in front of Judge Steele.
