77th 4th of July Parade

The Weather cooperated this year to have the 77th 4th of July parade  fill the streets of Glen Rock.  The Glen Rock’s I.D.A. (Independence Day Association) was founded in 1939. This associations main purpose was to develop and run the Independence Day Parade in Glen Rock.

This year we honored a great man known as the voice of Glen Rock. Here is the Parades announcers speech:

I’d like to take a moment and say some kind words about the passing of our long time parade announcer Bill Clark. He will continue to be missed.  Bill was devoted to his family and friends in Glen Rock. He was truly a pillar of our community. Over the years, he volunteered with the Jaycees, the Board of Education, but was best known as the “Voice of Glen Rock,” announcing Junior and High School football games along with the annual 4th of July parade. Bill’s passion was coaching Glen Rock youth in baseball, basketball, and football. He enjoyed his time bowling with The Desperados, annual golf outings to LBI and Myrtle Beach with his boys, and all family vacations. We all thank Bill’s family for everything he did for Glen Rock.

Some great additions this year included The Indian American Community of Glen Rock. They did a dance routine to the beats of Bollywood music.

Many traditions we have seen disappear in the recent years. Some of these traditions include: the end of the parade being the decorated kids bikes, the street “gangs” with floats, the Hawthorne Cavilers and several other parade entries. Hopefully next year we will have some of the old traditions back.
